NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian University men's and women's indoor track & field squads had 12 student-athletes named as United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honorees garnering a total of 14 All-Metro Region honors.
The USTFCCCA is in its tenth year of naming All-Region selections for indoor and outdoor track & field at the NCAA Division III level after having All-Region honors in cross country for a number of years. For a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-3 relay team. Moravian is part of the Metro Region.
The Moravian women's team had five student-athletes earn seven All-Region honors with junior Tara Smurla garnering All-Region in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs. Smurla ran the fastest time in the region in the 5K at 17:39.31 that she ran at the Ursinus College Bow Tie Invitational on December 7, and Smurla had the fourth-best time in the 3K at 10:18.34, which she posted on February 1 at the Ithaca (N.Y.) Bomber Invitational.
Senior sprinter Abby Giamoni had the second fastest time in the 400-meter dash at 57.84 seconds during the 2025 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Indoor Conference Championships hosted by Ithaca on March 8, and Giamoni recorded the fourth fastest 200-meter dash at 25.54 seconds also at the AARTFC meet on March 8. Junior Kara Vashey had the second-best distance in the 20-pound weight throw with a school record toss of 16.57 meters (54-4.5) during the AARTFC meet on March 8 while junior Margie Rayne was third in the shot put with a mark of 12.67 meters (41-7) in the Landmark Conference Championship on March 1. Junior Ali Haefele had the fifth-best high jump, clearing 1.60 meters (5-3) at the Landmark Conference Championships on March 8.
The Hounds had three individuals and a relay squad garner All-Region honorees on the men's side with junior Jerome Luckey second in the region in the high jump at 2.03 meters (6-8) that he recorded on March 1 at the Landmark Conference Championships and on March 8 at the AARTFC Championships to win both titles. Graduate student Cole Stanchina had the third fastest time in the 5,000-meter run in the region at 14:55.14 run at the Widener Indoor Classic on February 15 while senior Owen Nahf had the fourth-best time in the Metro Region in the 3,000-meter run with an 8:33.73 at the AARTFC Championships on March 8.
Moravian's distance medley relay team of graduate student Casey Frank, junior Bryan Kerchner, sophomore Jordan Gagner and freshman Owen Smith was third in the Metro Region with a time of 10:20.64 at the AARTFC Championships on March 7.
