BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing to look back at its 2023-24 athletic campaign. The final contest in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 1 highlight – the softball team posting a 2-1, eight-inning walk off victory over The Catholic University of America to reach the Landmark Conference Tournament Championship Round.
The game was Hounds' second of the day on May 11, 2024 as the Greyhounds hosted the Landmark Conference Tournament at Blue & Grey Field for the 11th time since the conference began in 2007-08. Moravian opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore right fielder Sarah DeStefano hit a one-out single before racing home on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of junior shortstop Holly Walter.
Catholic knotted the game at 1-1 with a run in the top of the fifth inning.
Moravian won the contest in walk off fashion with a run in the bottom of the eighth frame. Senior second baseman Ajala Elmore led off with a single to right field before a sacrifice bunt and a groundout put Elmore on third base. Freshman center fielder Shayla Morgan reached on an error by the Cardinals that allowed Elmore to race home with the winning run.
