Moravian Tops DeSales in Overtime on Goal by Kokoszka

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad scored late in regulation to send the match to overtime as the Greyhounds posted an 11-10 overtime victory at DeSales University in non-conference action Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds netted the first three goals to start the match with senior midfielder Steven Salica opening the scoring just four minutes into the contest. Senior midfielders Dan Kelly and Aaron Judge both found the net to give the Blue & Grey a 3-0 edge with 9:29 left in the first period. The Bulldogs countered with three straight goals to knot the score at 3-3 before Salica scored again late in the quarter to give Moravian a 4-3 lead after 15 minutes of action
  • DeSales began the scoring in the second quarter to make it 4-4 while graduate student attack Trevor Dzama netted a goal to send the Greyhounds to the intermission with a 5-4 lead
  • Dzama opened the second half with another goal before the Bulldogs scored twice to tie the match again at 6-6. Junior attack Ryan Kokoszka found the net to put Moravian back in front, 7-6, with 10:23 to go in the third quarter before DeSales scored twice. Kelly and sophomore attack Nick Coffaro scored in the final four minutes of the period to give the Blue & Grey a 9-8 edge after 45 minutes of play
  • The Bulldogs scored twice to start the fourth period and retake a 10-9 edge. Kokoszka found the net with an unassisted goal with 3:26 to go to knot the match at 10-10 and force overtime
  • Kokoszka won the match with 2:12 left in the first overtime off a pass from Coffaro as the Greyhounds won their third straight overtime contest dating back to 2019 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six players record a point with Kokoszka netting a hat trick
  • Kelly registered two goals, an assist and two ground balls while Dzama and Salica both scored twice
  • Coffaro recorded a goal, four assists and two ground balls while Judge had a goal
  • Sophomore goalie Liam Kelly posted a career-high 21 saves while senior Gannon Mesko was 14-for-24 on face-offs with three ground balls
  • Senior midfielder Kyle Weiss scooped up six ground balls and caused a pair of caused turnovers for the Blue & Grey while sophomore long stick midfielder Andrew Cassese added five ground balls and junior defender James Panico had three ground balls
  • The Hounds held a 30-28 advantage in ground balls in the contest
