Gannon Mesko for Landmark Conference defensive athlete of the week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University senior face-off specialist Gannon Mesko has been named the Landmark Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

Mesko won 34-for-43 on face-offs to help Moravian to a 2-0 week in Landmark Conference action as the Greyhounds extended their winning streak to six matches. Mesko also contributed 19 ground balls and two caused turnovers in the two contests. He went 21-for-28 while taking every face-off in a 14-10 come-from-behind win over Goucher College, and Mesko had a career-high 15 ground balls in the contest to go with a pair of caused turnovers. He finished the week with a 13-for-15 performance and four ground balls in a 20-6 win versus Juniata College on Senior Day.

Earlier this season, Mesko became Moravian's all-time leader in face-offs, and he is 607-for-1,058 in his career. He is also the single season record holder with 226 face-off wins in 2023, and Mesko is third all-time with 237 ground balls.

"Gannon is one of the hardest workers in our program," stated Head Coach Dave Carty. "He's in the weight room constantly and is really one of our unsung heroes, it's great to see him get recognized. We wouldn't be the team we are without him."

Moravian is set to return to action on Wednesday, April 9 when the squad hosts Elizabethtown College in a Landmark Conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. under the lights on John Makuvek Field.
