Layng Wins Pole Vault to Lead Moravian at Greyhound Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior Timothy Layng of the Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team won the pole vault to lead the squad at the non-scoring Greyhound Invitational Friday and Saturday at Timothy Breidegam Track & Rocco Calvo Field.

Layng cleared an ECAC qualifying height of 4.85 meters (15 feet, 11 inches) to win the event.  The height is tied for 11th on the 2012 Track & Field Results Reporting System list to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships in the pole vault; however, Layng is already fourth on the list. Those men ranked in the top 20 for individuals and top 16 for relays at the end of the season will compete at the national meet.

Senior Nicco Dalpiaz was tied for third in the pole vault at an ECAC qualifying height of 4.60 meters (15 feet, one inch), and he was third in the 110-meter high hurdles in an ECAC qualifying mark of 15.18 seconds.

Sophomore Kristopher Joint was third in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 14.10 meters (46 feet, 3 1/4 inches), which is tied for 31st on the TFRRS list but Joint is already 29th, and he finished in a tie for fifth in the long jump at 6.51 meters (21 feet, 4 1/4 inches). Junior Travis King placed fifth in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 13.77 meters (45 feet, 2 1/4 inches).  Junior Jonathan Heberling took sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.86 meters (six feet, 1 1/4 inches).

Senior Gary Zack was fourth in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying toss of 64.37 meters (211 feet, two inches), which is fourth on the TFRRS list but Zack is already first in the nation.  Junior Tyler Potterton was sixth in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying mark of 60.55 meters (198 feet, eight inches) which is 17th on the TFRRS list.

Moravian's 4x100-meter relay squad of Dalpiaz, Layng, King and senior Kyle D'Angelo finished fifth in an ECAC qualifying time of 43.44 seconds.  Senior Matthew Lutcza placed third in the 5,000-meter run with a time fo 15:26.81.

Moravian's next scheduled action will be on Friday and Saturday, April 27th and 28th when Layng and Zack compete at the Penn Relays. The full squad will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday, April 28th and 29th as the Greyhounds host the 2012 Landmark Conference Championships at Timothy Breidegam Track & Rocco Calvo Field.
