Dalpiaz 5th after First Day at Lynchburg Multi-Event

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Senior Nicco Dalpiaz of the Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team is in fifth place after the first half of the decathlon at the Lynchburg College Open Multi-Event Monday.

Dalpiaz has 3,235 points in just his second decathlon, and he is 28 points ahead of his first attempt that finished at 6,211 points.  Dalpiaz is just 30 points out of second place, and he trails the leader Jared Davis from East Tennessee State University by 93 points.

Dalpiaz ran a time of 11.44 seconds in the 100-meter dash to begin the event with 734 points.  He picked up 684 points with a distance of 6.44 meters (21 feet, 1 1/2 inches) before earning 432 points in the shot put with a toss of 9.11 meters (29 feet, 10 1/2 inches). Dalpiaz added 627 points for clearing a season-best 1.80 meters (five feet, 10 3/4 inches) in the high jump, and he finished the opening day with a time of 51.94 seconds in the 400-meter dash, his top time of the year, to earn 727 points.

Dalpiaz will compete in the second day of the event on Tuesday beginning at 2:00 p.m.  He will compete in five events including his top two, the 110-meter hurdles and pole vault, as well as the discus, javelin and 1,500-meter run.
