Hounds Rally in Final Two Sets for Win over Cedar Crest

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn a 3-2 victory over visiting Cedar Crest College in non-conference action Wednesday night in Johnston Hall.

How It Happened

  • The opening set was close early with the Falcons holding a 7-6 lead when the Blue & Grey put together a 13-3 run to take a 19-10 edge. Moravian eventually won the set 25-18
  • Cedar Crest opened a 4-1 advantage to start the second set before the Hounds closed within a point at 8-7.  The Falcons would capture the set 25-20 to even the score at 1-1
  • Moravian jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the third set. However, Cedar Crest won 13 straight points to build a 17-8 lead on the way to a 25-19 set win and a 2-1 team advantage
  • The Greyhounds used a 7-0 run early in the fourth set to take a 9-2 lead that the squad turned into a 25-14 set victory to even the contest and force the deciding fifth game
  • The final set went back-and-forth with the score tied four times, the final time at 9-9. The Hounds counted with a 5-0 run to take control before winning the set 15-11 to capture the match 

Inside the Numbers

  • Freshman outside hitter Gabbie Reigner led Moravian with 11 kills, 17 digs, three assists and a pair of service aces while junior outside hitter Jenna Deegan contributed six kills and four blocks
  • Freshman middle blocker Payton Reuber posted a career-high seven blocks to go with five kills while freshman outside hitter Kelly Tempalsky also had five kills to go with six digs and a pair of blocks
  • Sophomore setter Ally Plitnick had a team-high 19 assists to go along with nine digs, three kills and two service aces while senior defensive specialist Emily Szy had 17 digs and three assists
  • Freshman defensive specialist Sam Love contributed 14 digs while junior setter Emily Solomon posted six assists and six digs and senior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso added nine sigs and three assists
  • Senior middle blocker Autumn Marrero registered three kills, five digs, four service aces and two blocks while junior right side hitter Makenzie Krasley and senior outside hitter Sophie Bauer both contributed three kills
