Greyhounds Compete in Opening Day of Knights Invitational

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad competed in the opening day of the Neumann University Knights Invitational Friday, falling to Stockton (N.J.) University, 3-0, and Widener University, 3-2. 

How It Happened – Stockton

  • The Ospreys raced out to a 6-1 edge in the opening set before going on to earn a 25-11 set victory
  • The second set saw the Greyhounds down just a point at 3-2; however, Stockton ran off five straight points to take control on the way to a 25-14 set win
  • The Ospreys had another early advantage in the third set at 10-1 before winning the set 25-8 to finish off the match

How It Happened - Widener

  • The Greyhounds held an early 3-2 edge in the opening set with the Pioneers before Widener ran off eight straight points to take a 10-3 lead on the way to a 25-12 set win. The Blue & Grey did score six straight points before the Pride earned the final point of the game
  • The Hounds jumped out to a 5-1 advantage in the second set while Widener countered for an 8-7 edge. The Pride pulled away again and posted a 25-15 win to take a 2-0 lead
  • Once again, Moravian had an early edge in the fourth set, but this time it was the Greyhounds that pulled away as freshman defensive specialist Sam Love served eight consecutive points to give the Blue & Grey a 22-8 edge before the squad earned a 25-13 win to cut the deficit to 2-1
  • The fourth set was the closest of the contest and would go back-and-forth with neither team leading by more than four points. The Hounds eventually posted a 25-22 set victory to even the score at 2-2 and force the deciding set
  • The final game also went back-and-forth before Widener earned a 15-10 set win to capture the contest 

Inside the Numbers

  • Graduate student outside hitter Kat Wilt led Moravian with 18 kills in the two contests including 14 versus Widener, and she added 17 digs and four blocks
  • Junior outside hitter Jenna Deegan posted eight kills, two digs and a pair of blocks while freshman middle blocker Payton Reuber registered eight kills and eight blocks against the Pride
  • Freshman Kelly Tempalsky also contributed eight kills to go with six digs while senior middle blocker Autumn Marrero had eight kills, seven digs, seven blocks and three service aces on the night
  • Junior right side hitter Makenzie Krasley posted three kills and two blocks while freshman outside hitter Gabbie Reigner and senior outside hitter Sophie Bauer each recorded two kills
  • Sophomore setter Ally Plitnick led Moravian with 31 assists, eight digs and four blocks while freshman setter Molly Hughes posted 12 assists to go along with four digs
  • Love finished the matches with 27 digs, five assists three service aces while senior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso added 22 digs and three assists
