Moravian Competes in Rowan University Border Battle

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's cross country squad finished in 18th place of 35 teams at the Rowan University Border Battle run at the Gloucester County Dream Park Saturday morning.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored 491 points while SUNY Geneseo won the race with 37 points
  • Moravian was the fourth Landmark Conference school to finish in the meet

Moravian Results

  • Freshman Tara Smurla was the first Greyhound to cross the finish line as she placed 43rd of 308 runners in the championship race with a time of 23:38.5 on the 6,000-meter course
  • Sophomore Amber Poniktera placed 90th in a time of 24:21.3 while senior Rachel Byrne was one spot back at 24:25.2
  • Rounding out the top five scorers for the Hounds were freshman Tori Champagne, who took 161st in a time of 25:40.1, and freshman Grace Tirabassi, who finished 173rd in a time of 25:57.3
  • Freshman Meghan Myers placed 183rd in 26:05.7 while sophomore Lily Mingora was 188th in a time of 26:13.8, sophomore Catie Lovett finished 217th in 27:04.5 and sophomore Rylie Murphy crossed the line in 227th with a time of 27:24.5
  • Moravian had three runners compete in the Open 6K race with sophomore Rachael Goodman placing 39th of 87 runners in 27:01.5, sophomore Gillian Schonenberg finishing 42nd in a time of 27:18.6 and senior Peyton Herbst taking 56th in 27:56.4
