ROCHESTER, N.Y. --- Sophomore Jim Maru of the Moravian College golf team has been named the first Empire 8 Men's Golfer of the Week for the 2014 spring season for his performance last week.

Maru fired a career-low round of 74 to lead Moravian to a seventh place finish of 16 teams at the York College Invitational played at the Out Door Country Club last Monday. Maru was tied for seventh of 83 golfers with his two-over par round of 74 that included four birdies, two on each nine holes and two of the four par-five holes. He also had nine pars with four bogeys and one double bogey. Moravian posted a team score of 318 at the tournament while Franklin & Marshall College was just two-over par as a team with a 290.

"We were very happy to see Jim come through with a solid round this early in the season," stated Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "He struggled a little on our spring break trip. I feel he is starting to understand how to manage his game."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Thursday, April 3 when the squad travels to the Elizabethtown College Spring Blue Jay Classic at the Hershey Country Club. Tee-off is set for 12:00 p.m.
