Maru Earns Empire 8 All-Conference 2nd Team Honors

HERSHEY, Pa. --- Sophomore Jim Maru finished in a tie for ninth to earn Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team honors as the Moravian College golf team placed sixth of eight schools at the 2013-14 Empire 8 Championships completed Saturday at the Hershey Country Club.

Maru had a 76 in Saturday's final round, the third-lowest round of the day, to post a 72-hole score of 313 over the four par 71 rounds tying Chris Blyth from champion St. John Fisher College.

The Greyhounds finished with a 1,302 after fourth rounds while St. John Fisher won the title with a 1,204, 24 strokes ahead of the University of Scranton. Moravian's 326 on Saturday was the third lowest of the eight teams for the 18 holes played today.

The Empire 8 splits the conference championship into two rounds in the fall at Yahnundasis Country Club in New Hartford, New York in September and two rounds in the spring on the East Course of the Hershey Country Club.

Freshman Aaron Brown was 19th of the 34 golfers that played all four rounds with a 328 after an 86 on Saturday while sophomore Evan Dickinson was 20th with a 330 72-hole score that included an 83 Saturday. Freshman Dan Leppert was tied for 21st as an 81 Saturday gave him a 331 for the tournament. Freshman Andrew Garino shot 389 for the tournament with a 98 today while senior Eric Schultz had a 91 in the final round. Schultz had missed the first two rounds in the fall and finishes with a 181 for the two spring rounds.

Moravian will close out its 2013-14 season on Wednesday, April 23 when the Greyhounds host DeSales University in a dual match at Woodstone Country Club beginning at 1:00 p.m.
