Greyhounds Top Rutgers-Camden to begin 2019 Home Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team opened its 2019 home schedule with a 7-2 non-conference victory over Rutgers-Camden Saturday afternoon on Hoffman Courts.

The Greyhounds, now 5-3 on the season, led 2-1 after doubles action. Senior Peter Demyan and sophomore Mason Hudnall evened the score at 1-1 with an 8-5 victory at second doubles while the tandem of senior Isaac Schefer and freshman Daniel Salimnejad gave the Blue and Grey the lead for good with an 8-5 triumph at first doubles.

Moravian would win five of six singles contests to finish off the match. Schefer won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, at second singles for a 3-1 lead while Salimnejad posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at third singles for a 4-1 edge before the Raptors cut the score to 4-2. Sophomore Sean Kearns earned the winning team point with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at fifth singles while Demyan was next to finish with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at first singles. Hudnall finished off the match with a 7-0, 7-6 (7-4) win at fourth singles.

The Hounds will return to Hoffman Courts on Friday, March 22 when the squad hosts Delaware Valley University in a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
