Moravian Tops Elizabethtown in Landmark Opener to Extend Winning Streak to Five, Longest Since 2002

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team opened the 2019 Landmark Conference season with a 6-3 victory over Elizabethtown College at Hoffman Courts Sunday as the Greyhounds extended their winning streak to five matches, the longest for the program since a six-game winning streak in 2002.

The Hounds improve to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in Landmark Conference play with the squad's first April 23, 2016. The Blue and Grey trailed 2-1 after doubles action with an 8-6 win at first doubles by senior Isaac Schefer and freshman Daniel Salimnejad.

The Greyhounds won the first four singles matches off the courts to take a 5-2 lead and clinch the win. Senior Peter Demyan opened singles with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at first singles while Salimnejad posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at third singles. Schefer recorded a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at second singles for the Hounds while sophomore Sean Kearns clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles. Sophomore Mason Hudnall posted a 7-5, 6-3 victory at fifth singles for the Blue and Grey's final point.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, March 30 when the squad travels to Juniata College for a Landmark Conference match beginning at 1:00 p.m.
