BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2017-18 athletic campaign. The next story in the second list of the summer as part of the Top 10 Stories from the past year selected by the athletic administration is our No. 6 story – Head Coach John Byrne '82 earning his 800th career victory.
Byrne completed his 25th season leading the Greyhounds in 2018 and reached the 800-win plateau on Thursday, April 5 with a 3-2 win over DeSales University in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Blue & Grey Field, a game that was part of Moravian's first countdown of the summer at No. 9 on the Top 10 Exciting Games of 2017-18. The Greyhounds finished the year with a 36-8 record after winning the Landmark Conference Championship, the NCAA Division III Ewing N.J. Regional title and playing in an NCAA Division III Super Regional at Rowan University.
Byrne has guided the Greyhounds to a 822-241 record, three NCAA Division III World Series appearances including the NCAA Division III National Championship game in 2004, 17 NCAA Division III playoff berths with five regional titles and two Super Regional appearances, 22 conference playoff appearances and 18 conference championships including eight of 11 since the Landmark Conference began competition in 2007-08.
