BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College has selected Rebecca May as its next Fitness Center Director/Assistant Athletic Director beginning on September 24.
"It is with great pleasure to welcome Rebecca May back to Moravian College in the position as Fitness Center Director and Assistant Athletic Director," stated Director of Athletics & Recreation and Head Women's Basketball Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Rebecca brings great energy and experience to this role. She has a proven track record in her previous job at Union County as a leader in the Athletic Department and across campus. We are excited to have Rebecca improve our current services in the Fitness Center for the entire community at Moravian as well as provide added administrative leadership within the Athletic Department. In addition to working in the Fitness Center, her role will include overseeing scheduling of all facilities with athletics as well as running Intramurals across campus. We look forward to Rebecca joining the Moravian community and anticipate her energy and knowledge will help to grow our department."
May returns to Moravian after spending the last seven years at Union County College in New Jersey, first as Manager of College Life and then as Assistant Dean of College Life since March 2015. In her role at UCC, May has overseen the intramural program and fitness center, been responsible for the coordination and marketing of Union's 14 athletic programs as well as maintaining www.unionowls.com, and organized Union's Hall of Fame and College Life Awards ceremonies. May previously worked at Moravian from 2005 through 2010 in several roles including assistant field hockey coach, Blue & Grey Club intern and Assistant Director of the Moravian Fund for Athletics.
"I was attracted to this position at Moravian because it is an amazing opportunity to come back to an NCAA organization and continue to enhance the experience of student-athletes along with being a part of a team to lead an athletic department," May said. "The tradition of success runs deep at Moravian and I know I will be able to still learn and grow as a professional here."
In her new role with the Greyhounds, May will oversee all facets of Moravian's fitness center including scheduling of staff, replacement of equipment and increase in usage. May will also oversee Moravian's Intramurals program and scheduling of practices in the athletic facilities.
"The Fitness Center is a great facility with much potential," commented May. "In the near future, the cardio machines will be replaced along with a new layout to enhance the function of the Fitness Center. I am also very interested in improving the aesthetics of the facility and add more Moravian College branding to the interior.
"I am confident that the transition from Union County College to Moravian will go smoothly," continued May. "At Union, I was a part of building a successful athletic program and grateful for the skills, experiences, and opportunities that will carry over to help enhance Moravian athletics."
May graduated from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in December 2005 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Movement Sport and Exercise Science with a concentration in health and nutrition as well as a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education. She completed her Master's of Science degree in Sport Management, Intercollegiate Athletic Administration in August 2014.
