BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2018-19 athletic campaign. The next event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 4 highlight – the men's basketball squad defeating Keene State (N.H.) College, 86-65, for the program's first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament victory.
The Greyhounds, who finished the season with a 20-9 overall record – the second straight 20-win season for the Hounds, were making their fourth overall NCAA Tournament appearance and second consecutive after capturing the Landmark Conference Championship for the second straight year. Moravian had gone 0-4 in its previous three NCAA berths with the 1983 squad playing two games under the NCAA's previous format of consolation games in opening weekend.
On Friday, March 1, the Hounds played Keene State in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in Hamilton, New York. The Blue and Grey saw four of its starters – seniors Oneil Holder and Jimmy Murray and juniors C.J. Barnes and Elijah Davis score in double figures as the starting line-up accounted for 67 of the team's 86 points in the game.
The contest, played in front of a crowd of more than 700, went back-and-forth in the first half with the Greyhounds heading to the locker room with a 45-38 lead. Keene State scored first after the intermission to make it a four-point game at 45-41 before Barnes and Davis combined for three straight three-pointers that ignited an 18-0 run by the Hounds as they took control of the game at 63-41 with twelve and a half minutes to play. The lead would go as high as 24 points before Moravian advanced to the Second Round against host and No. 10 Hamilton (N.Y.) College, who would end the Greyhounds season the next night with an 83-72 decision.
