Allen Petros Named to Capital One Academic All-District First Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior defensive lineman Allen Petros (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) has been named to 2011 Capital One Academic All-District IV First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. This is the second straight year that Petros has been awarded this honor.

By making the All-District First Team, Petros is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for Capital One Academic All-American® accolades, which will be announced on Tuesday, December 6th. To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve.

This season, Petros is tied for second in the nation in tackles for a loss at 2.36 per game and is tied for 15th in sacks with .94 per game. In nine games, he has 57 tackles, 22 for a loss, nine sacks and two forced fumbles.

Earlier this year Petros set the school record for career tackles for a loss and currently has 63 and a half, 19 more than the next closest to him. Also, he only needs three and a half more sacks to break the career sack record set at 31 sacks by Rick DeLong (1985-1987).

The Greyhounds return to action Saturday, November 12th when they travel to rival Muhlenberg College for a Matte Award Game. The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
