LANCASTER, Pa. --- The Moravian College football team has been selected to finish fifth in the 2011 Centennial Conference preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors and released after the 2011 Centennial Conference media day live chat.
The Greyhounds, under the direction of first-year head coach Jeff Pukszyn, return 51 letterwinners and 13 starters from last year's 7-4 squad that won the 2010 ECAC Division III Southeast Bowl Championship after starting the year 1-3. The Greyhounds were 6-3 in their fourth Centennial Conference season last fall since joining the conference as an associate member in 2007, and Moravian expects to have 110 players report to camp on August 13th.
Defending Tri-Centennial Conference Champion Johns Hopkins University was selected first in the Centennial Conference poll with 14 first-place votes and 157 points. 2010 tri-champion Ursinus College was picked second with 130 points while tri-champion Muhlenberg College was third with 128 points and four first-place votes. Franklin & Marshall College was picked fourth with 116 points and the final two first-place votes. Moravian received 98 points in fifth place and was followed by Gettysburg College with 79 points and Dickinson College with 66 points. McDaniel College and Susquehanna University are tied for eighth with 54 points and Juniata College rounded out the poll with 18 points.
Moravian will begin its 2011 schedule on Saturday, September 3rd in a non-conference game at Widener University kicking off at 1:00 p.m. in Chester.
