Greyhounds Use Eight-Goal Second Quarter to Earn Third Straight Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team scored eight unanswered goals in the second quarter on the way to a 15-8 victory over visiting Saint Joseph's (Maine) College in non-conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday after as the Hounds won their third straight match.

How It Happened

  • The Monks scored the only two goals of the first quarter to lead 2-0 after 15 minutes of action
  • Moravian got onto the scoreboard with 13:17 left in the second period as sophomore attack Vincent Devito found the net off a pass from senior attack Trevor Dzama. The Blue & Grey knotted the contest a minute later as junior midfielder Dan Kelly scored off a feed from Devito. The Hounds took the lead for good with just over 11 minutes remaining in the quarter with Dzama finding the net off a pass from Devito. A minute later, graduate student Connor James made it 4-2 as he scored off a pass from sophomore attack Ryan Kokoszka. Moravian's fifth goal of the stanza came at the nine-minute mark on an unassisted tally by Kelly. Dzama scored again with a feed from James before Dzama set up Kokoszka with 2:33 until the intermission. The assist was the 100th of Dzama's career as he became the second Greyhound to reach the milestone. James finished off the quarter with a goal from Kelly with just five seconds before halftime as Moravian took an 8-2 lead into the intermission
  • Senior attack Brennan Fluehr scored 43 seconds into the second half on a pass from Dzama for a 9-2 edge. The Monks scored the next two goals before Dzama and Fluehr each hit the net again. After a Saint Joseph's goal, James finished the period with a goal to make it 12-5 for the Blue & Grey after 45 minutes of action
  • The Monks netted two goals to begin the fourth quarter, and Saint Joseph's added another goal while Moravian scored three times with Kelly netting two goals and junior midfielder Aaron Judge tallying a goal 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had seven players record a point with Kelly netting a game-high four goals to go with an assist and three ground balls
  • Dzama finished with three goals, four assists and a pair of ground balls while James posted three goals and two assists
  • Fluehr netted two goals while Devito had a goal and two assists
  • Kokoszka and Judge each had a goal and an assist with Judge adding two ground balls
  • Junior Gannon Mesko was 20-for-27 on face-offs to go with seven ground balls while sophomore midfielder Frank Britsch scooped up six ground balls
  • Senior long stick midfielder Matt Baer contributed five ground balls while junior midfielder Aden Moskovitz added four ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Sophomore defender Mike Sickler had four caused turnovers and three ground balls while sophomore midfielder RJ Toogood added three ground balls
  • Junior goalie Thomas Lee made eight saves and scooped up three ground balls in 57 minutes of action while junior goalie Sean Boyer had on save in the final three minutes of the match
  • The Blue & Grey had a 49-33 edge in shots, a 47-40 advantage in ground balls and were 20-for-24 on clearing attempts
