Greyhounds Battle to Three-Goal Victory at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad trailed by three goals in the first quarter before battling back for a 10-7 Landmark Conference victory at Goucher College Wednesday. 

How It Happened

  • The match began 45 minutes late due to a lightning delay, and the Gophers netted the first three goals of the contest in the opening ten minutes. The Greyhounds got on the scoreboard with 1:41 left in the first period when junior midfielder Aaron Judge found the net. Junior midfielder Dan Kelly cut the deficit to one as he scored with just 31 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 3-2 Goucher after 15 minutes of play
  • Kelly netted another goal just over five minutes into the second quarter to knot the match at 3-3 before the Gophers retook a 4-3 edge with six and a half minutes until the intermission. Graduate student attack Connor James netted a pair of goals in a three-and-a-half-minute span with the final goal coming with a minute left in the first half as the Blue & Grey led 5-4 heading into halftime
  • James opened the second half with another goal before junior midfielder Steven Salica and Judge each tallied markers to push the Moravian advantage to 8-4. Goucher countered with two goals to get within 8-6 after 45 minutes of action
  • Kelly found the net again six minutes into the final period while the Gophers cut it back to two goals at 9-7. Judge scored the final goal of the day with 6:44 to go as the Blue & Grey maintained the three goal edge for the remainder of the contest

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six players register a point with Kelly leading the squad with three goals and an assist
  • James and Judge each recorded hat tricks as well while Salica scored one goal
  • Senior attack Trevor Dzama dished out three assists while senior attack Brennan Fluehr had one assist
  • Junior face-off specialist Gannon Mesko was 16-for-20 on face-offs to go with six ground balls while senior long stick midfielder Matt Baer had seven ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Junior midfielder Aden Moskovitz scooped up five ground balls while junior defender Jason Levy added four caused turnovers and three ground balls
  • Sophomore midfielder Frank Britsch had three ground balls as well while sophomore defender Mike Sickler contributed a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls.
  • Junior goalie Thomas Lee posted ten saves to go with four ground balls
  • The Hounds held a 44-31 in shots and a 34-14 edge in ground balls while going 16-for-20 on face-offs and 13-for-17 on clears
