Moravian Drops Non-Conference Match to DeSales

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad fell behind early before dropping a 14-9 decision to visiting DeSales University in non-conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Bulldogs raced out to a 6-0 lead before the Greyhounds got on the scoreboard with a goal from sophomore attack Vincent Devito at the 3:33 mark. Senior Brennan Fluehr added a goal in the final minute as the Blue & Grey cut the DeSales edge to 6-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • Moravian netted the first two goals of the second quarter with tallies from junior midfielder Steven Salica and sophomore attack Ryan Kokoszka to pull within a pair of goals at the 5:10 mark. However, the Bulldogs scored twice including a goal with just 3.8 seconds left in the first half to head to the intermission with an 8-4 edge
  • Junior midfielder Aaron Judge opened the second half with a goal, and after DeSales scored once, Judge found the net with a man-up goal to make it 9-5 with 7:57 left in the quarter. The Bulldogs countered with two goals to hold an 11-6 advantage after 45 minutes of play
  • DeSales scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter for a 14-6 lead before Moravian tallied three goals in the final 1:53 with markers from junior midfielder Kyle Weiss, Devito and graduate student attack Connor James

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had nine players earn a point with Devito and Judge each netting two goals
  • Kokoszka added a goal, two assists and a pair of ground balls while Weiss contributed a goal, and assist and two ground balls
  • Fluehr, Salica and James each netted one goal while senior attack Trevor Dzama (Livingston, N.J./Livingston HS) added a pair of assists and junior midfielder Dan Kelly had an assist
  • Junior defender Jason Levy recorded six ground balls and two caused turnovers while sophomore defender Mike Sickler added five ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Senior long stick midfielder Matt Baer (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah HS) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior Gannon Mesko was 7-for-22 on face-offs with three ground balls
  • Junior goalie Thomas Lee posted eight saves in 41 minutes of action while freshman goalie Liam Kelly added four saves and two ground balls in 19 minutes of play
