ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team played 100 minutes of scoreless action at Cedar Crest College Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest; however, the Falcons eventually earned a 1-0 victory by winning the penalty stroke shootout, 3-1.
Freshman goalie Ashley Kunsman made 21 saves through the two overtimes, tying her career high set earlier this season which is also tied for the tenth most saves in a match in school history.
The Greyhounds had the best of the play in the first overtime, out-shooting the Falcons, 6-4, in the first 15-minute extra session. That shot total included freshman midfielder Talea Gordon hitting a post just 2:21 into overtime. Freshman defender Zoe Karvan put three shots on goal while sophomore midfielder Olivia Schlofer added another shot on the Cedar Crest goalie in the initial overtime.
Moravian's only other shot on goal came in the second overtime when freshman midfielder Erica Heaney put a shot in the keeper in the 92nd minute of action.
In the penalty stroke shootout, Gordon would find the net for the Greyhounds but Heaney, Karvan and freshman midfielder Mae Dienes were all stopped on their attempts.
The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, September 19 when the squad heads to Wilkes University for a non-conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
