SALISBURY, Md. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team finished its 2018 season opener versus St. Mary's College of Maryland in a 1-1 tie at the Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament hosted by Salisbury University Friday in a contest that took five hours to play due to weather delays and was shortened to 70 minutes.

The Hounds and Seahawks started the match nearly 40 minutes late and with 4:13 left in the first half and the match scoreless at 0-0, thunderstorms moved into the area and caused a three-hour delay. Salisbury's soccer field does not have lights so to finish the contest, the match was moved to another facility with lights and resumed around 8:30 p.m., four hours after the initial start. The squads played the final 4:13 of the first half before switching sides and playing another 25 minutes to get to the regulation cutout of 70 minutes for the contest to count.

After the match restarted, the Seahawks would take a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute. Moravian answered back in the 61st minute when sophomore forward Ethan Blakely took a free kick from the right sideline and had the ball bounce through the defenders and into the goal. It was Blakely's second career goal.

Moravian sophomore goalie Michael Bone made his first career start for the Blue and Grey and had five saves in the contest.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action to play host Salisbury on the second day of the Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament on Saturday, September 1 at 3:00 p.m.
