Men's Soccer Clinches First Landmark Conference Tournament Berth with Overtime Win at Goucher

The men's soccer team clinched a Landmark Conference Tournament berth with a 1-0 overtime win at Goucher College.

TOWSON, Md. --- Sophomore forward Alec Aloia found the back of the net in the 97th minute to lift the Moravian College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Goucher College in Landmark Conference action as the Greyhounds clinched their first berth in the Landmark Conference Tournament since the conference began play in 2007-08.

The Greyhounds, who are 7-8-2 overall and finish the Landmark Conference season at 4-3 earned the fourth seed with a tiebreaker over The University of Scranton after defeating the Royals, 2-1, in a head-to-head matchup early this month.

"What a great game," commented first-year Head Coach Bob Wilkinson. "Goucher was really good today and it was their senior day. Credit to both team for battling throughout and we each had quality chances to score. We knew Scranton had won as we entered overtime. Alec Aloia stepped up and finished off a chance that started a great celebration. I am so happy for our guys and for the Moravian alumni that have supported us all season. On to Elizabethtown Wednesday night."

The Hounds would fire five shots on goal in the opening half but were unable to break onto the scoreboard. Moravian, which would finish the contest with a 10-7 advantage in shots, had the only attempt in overtime as Aloia put a loose ball into the net with 3:03 remaining in the first overtime for his sixth goal of the season.

Sophomore goalie Michael Bone made a pair of saves for the first solo shutout of his career.

The fourth seeded Greyhounds are heading to top seed Elizabethtown College for a Landmark Conference Semifinal match on Wednesday, October 31 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
