Volleyball Opens Greyhound Premiere with Sweep

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's volleyball team swept the opening day of the 10th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational. The Greyhounds defeated King's College in the first game 3-0, and Alvernia University in the second game 3-1.

In the first match of the Greyhound Premiere, Moravian defeated King's in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-8, 25-11. Junior setter Kelly Brown (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) led the way with 31 assists, nine digs and three kills.

Senior libero Jesse Krasley (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) put up 16 digs to go with a service ace while classmate right-side hitter Samantha Savite (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) tallied eight kills. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Hostetler (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) had seven kills and three digs while senior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey (Bucks County, Pa./Pennsbury) totaled five kills, four digs and three aces.

The Monarchs were led by senior defensive specialist Jillian Foster, who had 11 digs.  Sophomore setter Mary Loughran had six assists and two kills while classmate outside hitter Emily Heimbecker tallied ten digs and one kill.

In the second game, the Greyhounds defeated the Crusaders in four sets by scores of 22-25, 25-11, 25-9, 25-11. Brown tallied up 38 assists, four digs, three blocks, two aces and two kills in the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo )Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil Academy) led Moravian with 11 kills and four digs while Savite totaled up ten kills and two blocks. Krasley had a team-high 19 digs to go with her three aces while Carey had a team-best four aces.

Freshman middle blocker Victoria Bobyak (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) put up nine kills and three blocks while senior middle blocker Jenny Wizeman (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton) had eight kills and three blocks.

Alvernia was led by senior setter Tori Beck, who had 19 assists and 13 digs. Junior outside hitter Kristen Rupp finished with eight kills while sophomore middle hitter Liz Newman had seven kills. Junior libero Toni Maurer tallied up ten digs while classmate defensive specialist Amy Dziura put up 13 digs.

Moravian is back in action at the Greyhound Premiere Invitational tomorrow, September 1st as they take on Centenary College at 10 a.m. and Muhlenberg College at 2 p.m.
