Greyhounds Rally to Defeat Virginia Wesleyan, 3-2

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn a 3-2 win over Virginia Wesleyan College in the final match on the opening day of the Christopher Newport University Invitational Friday.

The Greyhounds won the opening set 25-12 before dropping the next two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-16.  Moravian rallied to tie the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set before winning the match with a 15-12 triumph in the fifth set.

Senior right side hitter Samantha Savite led the squad with 20 kills, 12 digs, three service aces and a pair of blocks while freshman outside hitter Lauren Hostetler had 14 kills, and 16 digs. Freshman middle blocker Victoria Bobyak contributed 14 kills for the Greyhounds while sophomore outside hitter Taylor Jennings added ten kills and eight digs. Junior setter Kelly Brown paced Moravian with 52 assists to go along with five kills and 18 digs while senior libero Jesse Krasley had a team high 31 digs. Junior middle blocker Brittany O'Hara had four kills and a pair of blocks in the victory while senior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey had eight digs and a pair of service aces.

Moravian will close out the 2012 regular season on Saturday, October 27th with two more matches at the Christopher Newport University Invitational, playing Lynchburg (Va.) College at 10:00 a.m. and Averett (N.C.) University at 2:00 p.m.
