Volleyball Splits Opening Day at Landmark Round Robin

TOWNSON, Md. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split its opening day at the first Landmark Conference Round Robin of the 2012 season, falling to #21 Juniata College, 3-0, before sweeping host Goucher College, 3-0, Saturday.

The Greyhounds kept the opening match with the Eagles close through two sets, falling 26-24 and 25-23, before losing the third set 25-12.  Juniata still has not lost to a conference opponent since 1981 though the streak nearly ended in their second match of the day, a 3-2 win over Susquehanna.  Senior right side hitter Samantha Savite led Moravian versus Juniata with nine kills and a pair of service aces while sophomore outside hitter Taylor Jennings added eight kills.  Freshman middle blocker Victoria Bobyak contributed four kills for the Greyhounds while junior setter Kelly Brown added 17 assists and 14 digs.  Senior libero Jesse Krasley paced the Greyhounds with 23 digs.

Kristin Collins had nine kills for Juniata while Courtney Lydick added seven kills and nine blocks.  Catherine Scholl also had seven kills to go with three blocks while Amelia Kepler had seven blocks for the Eagles.  Sarah McCarthy led Juniata with 19 assists while Kelsey Fuller had 13 digs.

Moravian would defeat Goucher 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 in the final match of the opening.  Bobyak had a team high nine kills for the Greyhounds to go with two blocks while freshman outside hitter Lauren Hostetler added seven kills and a pair of service aces.  Junior middle blocker Brittany O'Hara added six kills and two blocks while Brown led the squad with 32 assists and 12 digs.  Krasley added another 11 digs for the Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds will close out the first Landmark Conference Round Robin on Sunday, September 30th in a match versus the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 12:30 p.m.
