Volleyball Opens Season 4-0 in Greyhound Premiere

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College volleyball team completed a perfect 4-0 weekend after another sweep on Saturday. The Greyhounds started off the day by defeating Centenary College 3-0. They then went on to defeat rival Muhlenberg College 3-1.

In the first game, the Greyhounds handled the Cyclones in the three sets by scores of, 25-9, 25-17, 25-10. As a team Moravian finished the match with 13 service aces.

Junior setter Kelly Brown led the way with 23 assists, three service aces, three kills, seven digs and a block.  Senior libero Jesse Krasley put up 11 digs to go with her four aces and three assists while senior middle blocker Jenny Wizeman had five kills and two blocks. Freshman defensive specialist Michelle Ciccone totaled three aces to go with two digs while sophomore outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo tallied four kills and three blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Jennings had five kills and two digs while senior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey totaled two aces, two kills and a dig.

Leading the way for Centenary was senior setter Jelena Markovic, who had six kills, six assists, ten digs and a block. Senior middle hitter Erika Chu put up four kills, two aces and two blocks while classmate right side hitter Kelli McMenamin totaled four kills and six assists.

In the second game, Moravian was put against rival Muhlenberg College. The Greyhounds defeated the Mules in four sets by scores of 21-25, 25-13, 25-19, 25-19.

Savite put up 13 kills, five blocks, five digs and an ace while Krasley had 23 digs, four assists and two aces. Both Savite and Krasley were named to the Greyhound Premiere All-Tournament Team.

Brown added 41 assists, eight digs, three kills and two aces while freshman middle blocker Victoria Bobyak had seven kills and five blocks. Carey tallied up seven kills, five digs and three aces while Comitalo put down ten kills to go with three digs, a block and an ace.

Moravian returns to action on Wednesday, September 5th for a non-conference match against Cabrini College. The contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
