Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split a tri-match hosted by Eastern University Saturday, defeating Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, 3-1, before falling to the #20 ranked host Eagles, 3-0.

The Greyhounds, now 12-3 overall,  defeated the Ospreys (10-4), 25-23, 25-18-13-25, 25-18 to win their 12th match of the season.  Senior right side hitter Samantha Savite passed Moravian with 18 kills, seven digs and three blocks while freshman outfielder hitter Lauren Hostetler had seven kills and nine digs.  Sophomore outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo also had seven kills in the match to go with four digs, three blocks and a service ace while freshman middle blocker Victoria Bobyak added seven kills.  Junior setter Kelly Brown had 44 assists and 14 digs for the Greyhounds while senior libero Jesse Krasley contributed a team high 18 digs to go with four assists.  Freshman defensive specialist Michelle Ciccone led the Greyhounds with three service aces.

Nicole Serekian led Richard Stockton with 15 kills, nine digs and two blocks while Stephanie Warner added ten kills in the match.  Shannon Clark had 17 assists and five digs for the Ospreys while Ashley Gubista led the squad with 17 digs.

Moravian would drop a 25-12, 25-14, 25-15 match to Eastern in the first of three matches this season for the Greyhounds versus teams in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Top 25.  Savite again paced Moravian with seven kills and two blocks, and she is now just one kill shy of becoming the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills.  Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Jennings added five kills and a pair of digs while Hostetler added three kills and two digs.  Brown had 21 assists and eight digs in the match while Krasley added 11 digs.

Kearby Benak led Eastern with 15 kills and six digs while Lauren Sproles added 11 kills and three blocks.  Amy Guarino paced the Eagles with 24 assists while Kelly Groff had a team high nine digs and Erin Hillman added four service aces.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Thursday, September 27th when the squad heads to Penn State-Berks for a non-conference match starting at 7:00 p.m.
