Moravian Falls at Scranton in Landmark Conference Action

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball squad fell to The University of Scranton, 90-76, in Landmark Conference action at the John Long Center in Scranton Tuesday evening as the Greyhounds played for the third time five days while the Royals were seeing their first action of the abbreviated 2021 season.

How It Happened

  • Senior guard Matt O'Connor opened the contest with a three-pointer. With the score knotted at 7-7, the Greyhounds netted the game's next seven points, and led 18-9 after three-pointer from freshman guard Alex Dietz at the 14:48 mark
  • Scranton answered with a 10-2 run to pull within a point at 20-19 just four and a half minutes later, and the Royals would take their first lead of the evening, 25-24, at the 6:51 mark. Freshman guard/forward James Thompson gave the Hounds the lead right back with a three-pointer before Scranton took the lead for good, 34-32 with 4:35 before halftime. The Royals headed to the locker room with a 43-37 edge
  • Senior guard Keith Otto connected on a three-pointer to start the second half to make it a three-point deficit for Moravian at 43-40 but that would be close as the Blue and Grey would get as the Royals stretched the lead to 24 points with just over since minutes remaining

Firsts for the Hounds

  • Thompson scored the first nine points of his collegiate career
  • Freshman guard Tyler Mish also scored the first four points of his collegiate career
  • Sophomores Ricky Melosky and Samuel Yadush netted their first points of the season 

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore guard Nate Dougherty netted a career-high 13 points in the game, one of three Greyhounds to reach double figures. Both O'Connor and Otto each had 15 points in the contest
  • Dietz scored a career-high six points while sophomore guard/forward Joe Paulillo had a career-best four points and Yadush netted a career-high three points
  • Moravian had its best game of the season at the foul line as the squad made 21-of-24 free throws (87.5 percent)
  • The Blue and Grey also shot 11-for-23 beyond the three-point line (47.8 percent)
