BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College Department of Athletics and Recreation had 188 of its student-athletes receive Dean's Honors List accolades from the College for achieving a 3.50 or higher grade-point average during the 2020 Fall semester.
"The coaches and staff in the Athletic Department are extremely proud of our student-athletes that achieved the Dean's Honor List for the fall semester, especially with the challenges of some in-person classes, some hybrid classes and some fully-online classes," commented Director of Athletics & Recreation and Head Women's Basketball Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "As a Division III institution, we maintain that same philosophy in our department: in order to be a successful athlete, you must be a successful student. Our coaches understand that academics are a top priority and our athletes all know that success in the classroom comes first. Congratulations to all the Dean's Honor List student-athletes."
The 188 Greyhounds account for over a third of the student-athletes that began the 2020-21 academic year on teams' rosters. The total also includes 33 student-athletes that are participating in more than one sport and 34 members of the group had a perfect 4.0 during the fall semester including seven of the 33 multi-sport student-athletes. The athletic department accounted for 23.5 percent of Moravian's entire 798-member Fall Dean's Honor List.
The football squad had the most honorees with 22 student-athletes earning Dean's Honor List accolades while the women's soccer team had 21 student-athletes honored followed by the women's lacrosse program with 17 honorees. The women's track & field squad had 14 student-athletes selected to the Dean's Honor List while the men's soccer team had 12 selections and the baseball, softball, women's cross country and field hockey squads all had 11 honorees. The men's cross country team had nine student-athletes garner Dean's Honor List while the men's lacrosse, women's basketball and women's tennis squads each had eight selections followed by men's track & field and women's volleyball programs with seven honorees. Rounding out the list was the men's basketball team with four selections and the men's tennis and golf teams with three honorees apiece. The 34 dual-sport student-athletes are listed with their first sport played during the academic year.
