Class: 1998

How did you choose the sport you played when you were growing up? I was influenced by my dad and older brothers and the sports that they played. We were always outside throwing baseball and softball and playing basketball. My brother Brian played street hockey, so when I learned that field hockey was a sport in 7th grade at Northampton, I wanted to try it.

Why did you choose to come to Moravian College? My dad Harry E. Weaver Jr. and oldest brother Mark were Moravian graduates, my mom Maryann worked at the college, and my brother Brian was a student. I looked at other colleges and universities, but I was drawn to the charming campus and traditions that I knew so well.

What experiences as a student-athlete at Moravian helped prepare you for life after college? Working as a team to accomplish goals, being a leader, and having fun while doing it

How did you get into your current occupation? One of my professors in the Economics and Business department, Peter von Allmen, put me in touch with a friend of his who worked for a software company that had a hiring program for recent college graduates. I interviewed and was excited to get an opportunity to work in the field. I worked as a consultant for about a year before moving into a technical writing role. I really liked the idea of combining software technology knowledge and creative writing skills. I always say that I truly am my parents' daughter: my dad was a computer programmer and my mom worked as an editor-writer.

What was your favorite place on campus? It's hard to pick just one! I loved Comenius, where most of my classes were. I loved going to South Campus for my Graphics Design class and being there during Christmastime. I also loved the library, where my dad used to take me even before I was a student.

What activities/organizations were you involved in at Moravian College as a student-athlete? I was a member of the Student Alumni Association, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, 26-Points tour guides, Writing Center tutors, Emerging Leaders program, and Sigma Theta Chi sorority.

What was your most memorable moment at Moravian? Crying in the back of the bus coming home from what I thought was my last college softball game my senior year

What advice do you have for prospective student-athletes looking to attend Moravian College? Moravian allows you to find a healthy balance between being a successful scholar, athlete, and citizen.

What advice do you have for current student-athletes as they approach graduation? Be open to possibilities and foster relationships with professors and other mentors

What is the best piece of advice you've been given? Keep your eye on the ball. And seek happiness.

Who are your role models/most influential people? My parents

Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with? My dad and his parents, all deceased. My grandmother died before I knew her, I have so many fond memories of my childhood with my grandfather, and my dad was my hero. I would love to have the chance to talk with them all at the same time.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise most people. I disregarded softball coach John Byrne's recruiting calls. I came to Moravian set on only playing field hockey. My first semester freshman year, it took my brother Brian and fellow athlete Tanya Thear to convince me to try out for the softball team. It ended up being the best decision that I made at Moravian.
