BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College has named LeRoy "L.J." Smith '17 as its first full-time Assistant Director of Athletic Communications effective July 12.

Smith returns to his alma mater after three and a half years as the Director of Athletic Communications at Cedar Crest College in Allentown. Prior to his tenure with the Falcons, Smith spent the fall 2017 semester as a post-graduate intern at Moravian following two years on the Greyhounds' staff as an undergraduate student worker.

"We are excited to have L.J. returning to Moravian," stated Moravian Director of Athletic Communications Mark Fleming. "He has shown during his time at Cedar Crest that he has the type of work ethic to make him successful, and he started several initiatives with the Falcons including a podcast that have raised the value of athletic communications at Cedar Crest. We are looking forward to L.J. helping us increase the exposure of Moravian athletics to new platforms."

During his time at Cedar Crest, Smith helped with a full redesign of the department's website and increased usage of social media platforms. He also developed an online store for the Falcons while handling all aspects of athletic communications.

"Cedar Crest has allowed me to learn and grow in this profession and I cannot thank Director of Athletics Allen G. Snook Jr. and the athletics staff enough for that opportunity," stated Smith. "They gave me the creative freedom to produce content and build my craft, which led to highlighting and enhancing the overall experience for the student-athletes and Falcon Family. I have so many invaluable experiences over my three and a half years at Cedar Crest and will look back with nothing but gratitude to the student-athletes, coaches, and staff."

As an undergraduate for Moravian from 2015-2017, Smith was the voice of the Greyhound Sports Network for Moravian's live video streaming platform and also developed the logo for the network. As part of his duties in his return to the Greyhounds, Smith will look to enhance the graphics packages that Moravian will use on over 100 live events throughout the upcoming academic year.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to return to Moravian and the Bethlehem community," commented Smith. "I am extremely grateful to the Director of Athletic Communications Mark Fleming, Director of Athletics Mary Beth Spirk, Assistant Athletic Director Rebecca May and the entire search committee for trusting me to take on this role.

"I look forward to working alongside Mark and assisting him in producing content for the Greyhounds social media, live streams, and other multimedia outlets. I can't wait to continue to elevate the Moravian brand and enhance the student-athlete experience," finished Smith.

Moravian will expand its varsity sports offering to 22 teams beginning in 2021-22 with men's and women's swimming competing in their inaugural seasons.
