TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has named 45 student-athletes including six from Moravian College to the 2020-21 Fall All-Sportsmanship Team. The All-Sportsmanship Team includes one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team.

The All-Sportsmanship Team recognizes student-athletes who epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship. The student-athletes selected demonstrate fair play, graciousness in victory and respectfulness in defeat. They are ambassadors for the team, both on and off the field, and galvanize their teammates toward their goals. These student-athletes exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, spectators, and the greater campus community.

The All-Sportsmanship Team was created by the Landmark Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2013 as a way to highlight student-athletes who are making an impact. The Landmark previously awarded a Sportsmanship Cup before the All-Sportsmanship Team replaced the Cup for the 2013-14 academic year.

Cross Country

Junior Shane Houghton has competed twice in the Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships with a 51st place finish as a freshman and a 40th place as a sophomore. He is also a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.

"Shane is both knowledgeable and respectful of his competition," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Jesse Baumann. "He follows what others are doing closely which helps to motivate him, but he also is very courteous to his competitors before and after the race. As a teammate he is highly motivated by our team being successful, so he is extremely supportive and complimentary of his teammates as well. He has a competitive edge for sure, but he knows how to balance it and show good sportsmanship towards everyone he competes with or against."

Senior Alison Nicolosi competed in the Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships three times in her career, finishing 72nd as a freshman, 52nd as a sophomore and 61st in 2019 during the most recent championship meet. She is three-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.

"Ali is actually looking for ways to come back after she graduates because she is so passionate about her teammates and our program," Baumann stated. "She definitely has a nurturing gene and is always concerned about the welfare of teammates, even competitors, sometimes more than her own health and wellbeing. Before or after races she's always engaging with other competitors, encouraging, and complimenting them. In just about every way imaginable Ali displays great sportsmanship towards her teammates and opponents."

Field Hockey

Sophomore forward Maddie Call has scored five goals including a pair of game-winning goals in her career with Moravian. She earned a spot on the 2020 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad.

"Maddie has been an exemplary student-athlete throughout her time so far at Moravian," explained Head Coach Sarah Dalrymple. "She puts her head down and gets to work both on and off the field no matter the task at hand. She is a player who understands the bigger picture and consistently leads by example."

Men's Soccer

Senior defender Jared Wisdom has a pair of assists in his career with Moravian after spending the first two years of his career at Eastern University.

"We are very excited that Jared Wisdom has been named to the Landmark Conference All-Sportsmanship Team," commented Head Coach Robert Wilkinson. "Jared has had a tremendous impact on our team and our culture. He is a great student and teammates. He is a pleasure to coach."

Women's Soccer

Senior forward Oonagh Breen had seven goals and two assists during her career with the Greyhounds, which saw her start 24 of 45 career matches. She is a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.

"Oonagh displays such a natural love for the game of soccer," noted Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "She has a professional approach to each training session and game and it's clear how much she enjoys playing the sport. She has been one of our most creative forwards on and off the ball and I have really enjoyed coaching her during her four years."

Women's Volleyball

Sophomore right side hitter Maddie Houchens has played in 14 matches during her career at Moravian, and she has 18 kills, 10 digs and nine blocks.

"After coming off an injury her freshman year, Maddie worked hard and has established herself as a formidable right side hitter," stated Head Coach Shelley Bauder. "Due to various circumstances this spring, we only had one middle so Maddie stepped in to play middle despite having never played it before. This was one of the many ways she is an awesome teammate!"
