Ten Hounds Selected as 2021 USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Mideast Region Honorees

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian College men's and women's track & field teams had 10 student-athletes named as United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honorees in 10 events including relays for a total of 18 All-Region honors.

For a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-3 relay team. The program must also be a member of the USTFCCCA. Moravian is part of the Mideast Region.

The Greyhound men had three honorees with graduate student Greg Jaindl earning honors in both the 1,50-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, junior Shane Houghton in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and senior Shane Mastro in shot put. Jaindl, who was third in the region in both events, ran a PR time of 3:53.00 in the 1,500-meter run at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships on May 19, and he ran a season-best time of 9:09.70 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Dr. Keeler Track & Field Meet hosted by North Central (Ill.) College on May 13. Houghton was fifth in the region in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a PR of 9:34.40 at the AARTF meet while Masto was third in the region in the shot put with a PR toss of 15.39 meters (50-6) at the Greyhounds Invitational on April 10.

Jaindl is heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the third time in 3,000-meter steeplechase and will race on Friday, May 28 at 4:45 p.m. in the meet being hosted by North Carolina A&T University and the Greensboro Sports Commission in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Moravian women's team had four student-athletes and a pair of relay teams named to All-Region with sophomores Helen Davis and Crystal Robinson each making All-Mideast Region in multiple individual events. Davis had the top time in the region in the 100-meter dash with a PR time of 12.23 seconds at the AARTF meet, and she ranked fourth in the region in the 200-meter dash in a PR time of 25.49 seconds, also run at the AARTF Championships. Robinson recorded the fastest time in the Mideast Region in the 200-meter dash at 24.88 seconds, posted at the AARTF meet, and she is also fifth in the region in the 400-meter dash in a PR time of 59.64 seconds, which Robinson ran at the Landmark Conference Championships on May 8.

Robinson qualified for the NCAA DIII National Championships for the first time in the 200-meter dash and will compete in the preliminaries on Thursday, May 27 at 4:55 p.m. The finals of the event are scheduled for Saturday, May 29 at 2:40 p.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Junior Alyssa Lambert was ranked fourth in the region in the 400-meter hurdles in a PR time of 1:04.79 while freshman Lexi Groff was second in the Mideast Region in the high jump at a PR height of 1.64 meters (5-4.5) recorded at the AARTF meet.

Moravian's 4x100-meter relay squad of Davis, Robinson, graduate student Jordan Luciano and senior Camaryn Wheeler had the top time in the Mideast Region with a mark of 48.19 seconds at the AARTF Championships while the Greyhounds' 4x400-meter relay squad of Robinson, Lambert, Wheeler and sophomore Rachel Byrne was second in the region with a time of 3:58.82 from the AARTF meet.
