Rodney Berger

Major: Environmental Science

How did you choose your sport? Ever since I was 3, I had a glove and ball in my hand, while also looking up to my older brother who also played baseball, I wanted to do the same things he did. Over the years, I began to develop a love for the game that has allowed me to learn valuable life lessons and develop friendships that will last a lifetime.

Why did you come to Moravian College? I chose Moravian, because of the proximity to my hometown, as well as the rich history and reputation that it carries. The small school atmosphere provided the opportunity to become involved in the community, give back, and build relationships with countless others all while having the privilege to play the sport I love.

What is your major and how did you choose it? Environmental Science. I ended up ultimately choosing this major after being unsettled on what I wanted to do for a while, but knew I wanted to do something related to science and being able to work outdoors/in the field. Understanding the natural world around us and learning how to live sustainably is important, especially in times like we are experiencing now. The field of environmental science is only going to grow and become a focal point of helping maintain life on earth.

What are your future plans? My future plans are to get a job related to environmental work, but my main goal is to work in the area of sustainable energy, with plans on getting a master's degree along the way.

What is your favorite place on campus? The Collier Hall of Science and Gillespie Field.

What activities/organizations at Moravian College have you been active in as a student-athlete? Chi Alpha Sigma, National College Athlete Honor Society, Environmental Club

What is your most memorable moment at Moravian? Getting my first career save against Baldwin Wallace in Florida in 2019.

Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions? Sitting in the same spot in the dugout.

What advice do you have for prospective student-athletes looking to attend Moravian College? If you are looking to become part of a school that has history, passion, puts academics first, and breeds winners, then Moravian is the place for you.

What is the best piece of advice you've been given? That whatever I start, I make sure I finish, so that there are no regrets.

Who are your role models/most influential people? My parents, they never doubted me or my abilities and have shown me what dedication and hard work can do for not only yourself but others around you.

Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with? Elon Musk, Adam Sandler, Roy Halladay

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise most people. I have a nephew that is 2 years older than me.
