Megan O'Brien
Class: 2024
Major: Biology

How did you choose your sport? When I was younger, I made a friend who played tennis. She introduced me to a tennis camp run by my school district and that's when I met my coach of ten years, Ryan Knarr, and I just fell in love with the sport.

Why did you come to Moravian College? It felt like home to me when I got onto campus for the first time. Moravian is like home away from home, and the distance is good for when my parents come and visit me. Also, the great science program and tennis team were huge factors in my decision as well.

What is your major and how did you choose it? I am majoring in biology, and I choose it because it was the course that I was the most interested in and I enjoyed the most. Also, it is a very broad subject, so I am going to be in many different types of science classes.

What are your future plans? I plan on going to medical school to become a doctor, it has been a lifelong goal of mine to help others.

What is your favorite place on campus? The Star Room in the Sally. It has such a great view of the area and the Moravian star is so cool to look at. Also, it's a great room to study with my friends.

What activities/organizations at Moravian College have you been active in as a student-athlete? Due to COVID, I have not been able to do many things with clubs, but I have enjoyed going to the MAC events on campus with my friends.

What is your most memorable moment at Moravian? My most memorable moment here was having my first tennis practice. It was really fun and a good way to release some stress.

Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions? I usually listen to my favorite playlist before a match of a bunch of my favorite hype songs. When I play, I usually bounce the ball a lot before I serve, and I tend to twist my racquet in my hands before I return a serve.

What advice do you have for prospective student-athletes looking to attend Moravian College? Reach out to the players! They can talk to you about the coaches, what the school is like, and about some of the teachers. Also, having an overnight visit really helped me see what the school was like, of course this was pre-COVID.

What is the best piece of advice you've been given? My father has a saying, and it is "don't be a moron and make intelligent choices." It's a great motto and it is very relevant for everyone.

Who are your role models/most influential people? My biggest role model is Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was such a pioneer for women everywhere and has such an inspirational story. She inspired me to pursue my interests even if people doubt my abilities.

Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with? Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Barack Obama, and Carrie Fisher

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise most people. I am a really good baker, and my favorite thing to make is banana bread.
