TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has named 74 student-athletes including nine from Moravian College to the 2021 Spring All-Sportsmanship Team. The All-Sportsmanship Team includes one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team.

The All-Sportsmanship Team recognizes student-athletes who epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship. The student-athletes selected demonstrate fair play, graciousness in victory and respectfulness in defeat. They are ambassadors for the team, both on and off the field, and galvanize their teammates toward their goals. These student-athletes exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, spectators, and the greater campus community.

The All-Sportsmanship Team was created by the Landmark Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2013 as a way to highlight student-athletes who are making an impact. The Landmark previously awarded a Sportsmanship Cup before the All-Sportsmanship Team replaced the Cup for the 2013-14 academic year.

Baseball

Senior infielder Michael Miceli helped the Greyhounds reach the Landmark Conference Tournament this spring as the fourth seed. This season, he had 13 hits, 13 runs and three RBIs in 21 games. Miceli, who made the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in 2019, completed his 91-game career with 71 hits, 44 runs, four doubles, two triples, nine stolen bases and 21 RBIs.

Softball

Freshman designated player Emily Silberman helped the Greyhounds to a 31-3 record on the year as the program was ranked as high as fourth in the nation in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 during the regular season and won the 2021 Landmark Conference Championship to earn a berth to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. Silberman, who was selected to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team this spring, had a .474 batting average, 27 hits, four runs, two doubles, three homers and 21 RBIs in her debut season.

"Emily exemplifies the spirit of the game with her positive but competitive approach," state Head Coach John Byrne.

Track & Field

Senior distance runner Billy Milburn competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 1,500-meter run for the Greyhounds this spring.

"You can hear Billy cheering for his teammates from anywhere across the track at any meet or practice," noted Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "He's as supportive a teammate as anyone we've had before, sometimes more concerned with how the team is doing than even how he is. Aside from just track and field, Billy donated a lot of his time to helping the entire athletic department as a play-by-play announcer for numerous sports and any other duties that were asked of him. He truly bled navy and grey and will be greatly missed for his support of everything Moravian."

Sophomore jumper Haylee Saylor inished 11th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.74 meters (31-11.5) and 14th in the long jump with a leap of 4.57 meters (15-0) at the 2021 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships, helping the Greyhounds win their 13th conference title.

"Haylee is as polite an athlete as we've ever had here on our team," Baumann said. "No matter what the circumstances are, she keeps her cool with a calm demeanor. She's as respectful as anyone we've ever coached and couldn't be a better example of the type of person or student-athlete we want to have representing both our team and school."

Tennis

Senior Mason Hudnall was selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team for the second time in his career. This spring, Hudnall had a 7-4 mark in singles action including a 6-3 slate at third singles top go along with a 6-5 mark in doubles competition while helping the Greyhounds to the Landmark Conference Tournament. Hudnall had a career singles mark of 21-22 and served as a captain for two years.

"Mason has played an integral part in the tennis program at Moravian," commented Interim Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas. "Mason has been a true leader and mentor to the younger players on the men's team. He displays a high level of respect at all times for the sport, his coaches, his teammates, his opponents, and the officials."

Senior Destiny George was part of the women's squad that was 11-1, won the Landmark Conference Championship and reached the second round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Tournament. George was 1-0 in singles action this year and had a 4-1 mark during her career.

"Destiny doesn't settle for anything less than 100% effort both on and off the court," explained Freitas. "She always demonstrates a positive attitude, and she is a passionate, caring player and teammate, and someone who exhibits true sportsmanship in all she does."

Lacrosse

Senior goalie Courtney Heist helped the Greyhounds post a 6-5 mark, reach the Landmark Conference Semifinals for the third time and earn the first postseason win in program history. Heist played in three matches with one start, and she recorded five saves in 41 minutes of action. Heist finished her career with an 11.71 goals-against average, a 4-1 record and 68 saves in 579 minutes of action.

"Courtney is one of the most kind-hearted competitors I've had the pleasure of coaching," commented Head Coach Kristen Nicholson. "Even when faced with extreme adversity and challenges, she remains positive and finds ways to lift up her teammates and herself. She pushes the people around her to be their best while striving to reach her own potential. I am so grateful for having the opportunity to coach her for the past four years."

Senior attack Connor Hull played in nine matches this spring with one start, and he contributed seven goals, seven assists and five ground balls. He helped Moravian to 5-7 record, the program's first-ever Landmark Conference Tournament appearance and first-ever postseason victory in the Landmark Conference Quarterfinals.

Golf

Senior Victor Tavares was honored on the All-Sportsmanship Team for the third time in his career. Tavares helped Moravian to a sixth-place finish at the 2021 Landmark Conference Championships, where he tied for 26th with a round of 88. Tavares completed his career with an 80.09 average over 22 career rounds.

"I think everyone that ever played with Victor would have nothing but good things to say about him which is a great testament to his character," stated Head Coach Kevin Edwards.
