Moravian Sees Three Score in Double Figures in Non-Conference Loss to Marymount (Va.)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team had three players score in double figures, but the Greyhounds ended up falling to visiting Marymount (Va.) University, 89-78, in non-conference action in Johnston Hall Saturday afternoon. 

How It Happened

  • Senior guard Keith Otto (drained a three-pointer to open the scoring for Moravian, and he added a lay-up for a 5-1 edge. Freshman forward Mike DiPietro connected on a lay-up as the Blue and Grey had a 7-3 edge before the Saints ran off 10 straight points to take the lead for good
  • Sophomore guard Greg Eck hit a back-to-back three-pointers to put the Greyhounds within two points, 17-15, at the 13:03 mark. The Hounds trailed by two as well at 31-29 after a three-pointer from senior guard Matt O'Connor with 6:37 to go in the first half but a 16-7 run by Marymount gave the Saints a 47-36 lead at the intermission
  • In the second half, Moravian would get within eight points on two occasions, the final time at 60-52 after another three-pointer from O'Connor with 12:59 remaining 

Inside the Numbers

  • O'Connor scored a team high 22 points, one of three Greyhounds in double digits. Eck tossed in 17 points and had a career-best five assists while Otto added 16 points and tied his career-high with four assists
  • Freshman guard Alex Dietz grabbed a career-high five rebounds and dished out a career-best four assists to go with five points
  • Sophomore forward Joe Paulillo pulled down a career-best seven rebounds to go along with six points
  • Sophomore guard Nate Dougherty grabbed a career-high seven rebounds for the Hounds
  • Freshman forward James Thompson dished out a career-best four assists in the contest
  • Moravian forced the Saints, who were playing their first game of the shortened 2021 season, into 16 turnovers while only making 15 miscues
