Moravian Men Win 2019-20 Home Opener at Hoffman Courts Over Misericordia

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis squad opened its 2019-20 home season with a 6-3 victory over visiting Misericordia University in non-conference action at Hoffman Courts Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, now 2-0, took a 2-1 lead in doubles action. Freshmen Andrew Hozza and Kieran Pisani began the match with an 8-1 win at third doubles for the Hounds while junior Sean Kearns and sophomore Neil Guarino made it 2-0 with an 8-2 victory at second doubles.

Moravian then won four of six singles contests to capture the win. The Cougars won the first singles match to knot the score at 2-2 before freshman Justin Szaro posted a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at second singles to move the Blue and Grey ahead, 3-2. Misericorida tied the match again at 3-3 with a three-set victory at third singles. Hozza put the Greyhounds in the lead for good with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fifth singles while Pisani's three-set, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph at fourth singles captured the team win for the Hounds. Freshman Aidan Evans-Gartley finished off the match with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at sixth singles.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, September 22 in a tri-match at DeSales University beginning at 9:00 a.m. After playing the Bulldogs, Moravian will take on rival Muhlenberg College at 12:00 p.m. in Center Valley.
