Volleyball Tops Gettysburg & Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team swept a tri-match at Swarthmore College Saturday, defeating both the host Garnet and Gettysburg College by 3-1 scores.

In Moravian's opening match with Gettysburg, the Greyhounds posted a 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 victory.  Freshman outside hitter Laure Hostetler led the squad with a match high 17 kills to go with 14 digs while sophomore outside hitter Taylor Jennings added 14 kills.  Freshman middle blocker Victoria Bobyak continued 12 kills and two blocks while senior right side hitter Samantha Savite also had 12 kills.  Junior setter Kelly Brown added a match high 45 assists to go with 18 digs and four kills while senior libero Jesse Krasley also had 18 digs.  Senior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey had 11 digs while freshman Michelle Ciccone contributed three service aces.

Courtney Cyr led Gettysburg with 12 kills and five blocks while Cydney Bracken added seven kills.  Katie Wilson contributed a team high 24 digs while Kate DeLess added 15 assists.  Lizzy Kuhn had ten assists and four service aces for the Bullets.

In the match with Swarthmore, the Greyhounds won the match 28-26, 25-23, 27-29, 25-23.  Savite had a match high 17 kills to go with four blocks, eight digs and a pair of service aces while Jennings contributed 16 kills and eight digs.  Hostetler contributed 12 kills, nine digs and two service aces while Brown had 47 assists, 17 digs, four blocks and six kills.  Krasley had a match high 30 digs to go with four assists and three service aces while Bobyak had seven kills and six blocks.  Junior middle blocker Brittany O'Hara had five kills and two blocks in the win over Swarthmore while Ciccone added three service aces.

Danielle Sullivan led Swarthmore with ten kills and 16 digs while Allison Coleman had 19 assists, ten digs, eight kills and three blocks.  Samantha Dubois also had 19 assists and nine digs while Kathryn Montemurro added 21 digs, eight kills and four service aces.

Moravian will return to action on Thursday, October 11th in a non-conference match versus Cedar Crest College starting at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
