Baseball Drops Series Finale to No. 19 Catholic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team dropped the final contest in a three-game Landmark Conference series with No. 19 The Catholic University of America by a score of 22-2 Sunday afternoon at Gillespie Field.

The Greyhounds had 11 hits in the contest with freshman shortstop Michael Miceli going 2-for-4.

Senior Dan Morrin made the start on the mound for the Greyhounds and recorded one strikeout in a third of an inning. Junior Brendon Caraway had one strikeout in 1.2 innings while freshman Rodney Berger tossed two-thirds of an inning. Senior Adam Howard was on the mound for a third of an inning, and sophomore Connor Morro tossed four innings with three strikeouts. Juniors Billy Roethke and Kevin Shields each pitched one inning with Shields striking out two batters.

Catholic scored seven runs in the top of the first inning. The Blue and Grey answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 7-2. Senior designated hitter David Wodzisz and sophomore second baseman Ian Csencsits had back-to-back singles for the Greyhounds before junior third baseman Evan Kulig walked to load the bases. Senior first baseman Joey Maker connected on an RBI sacrifice fly to score Wodzisz. Junior left fielder Mike Mittl drew a walk to load the bases again, and a base on balls to junior center fielder Austin Markowski scored Csencsits.

The Cardinals added a run in the second inning and 13 more in the top of the third to extend their lead to 21-2. Catholic finished off the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh inning.      

Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, March 21 in a non-conference game versus Montclair State University beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Gillespie Field.
