Greyhounds Split with River Hawks in Landmark Conference Doubleheader

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- After dropping the first game 9-2, the Moravian College baseball team used a six-hit shutout by junior Rhett Jacoby to post a 1-0 victory in the second contest of a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Susquehanna University Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, now 12-11 overall and 6-5 in Landmark Conference action, had eight hits in the opener with sophomore second baseman Ian Csencsits and junior third baseman Evan Kulig each going 2-for-4.

Senior Nicholas Mazzella made the start on the mound for Moravian and allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks to go with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings of action. Junior Tyler Caraway tossed the final 1.2 innings with three runs on five hits to go with a pair of strikeouts.

The Blue and Grey jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Csencsits doubled with one out and scored on an RBI single by junior center fielder Austin Markowski.

Susquehanna scored once in the second and twice in the third inning to pull ahead 3-1.

Moravian scored again in the top of the fifth inning when sophomore right fielder Carmine Palummo connected on a one-out double and scored on an RBI single by Csencsits to get the Hounds within a run. However, the River Hawks tallies three times in the bottom of the fifth and three more times in the sixth to finish the scoring in the opener.

 In the second game, Jacoby scattered six hits and walked two batters while striking out six to improve to 5-2 on the season.

The Hounds had just five hits in the second contest with Palummo and Csencsits each going 2-for-4.

The lone run of the game came in the top of the seventh inning when junior catcher Chase Rogers reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a two-out RBI single by Csencsits.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to complete the three-game Landmark Conference series with a single, nine-inning game on Sunday, April 8 with first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove.
