Boland & Gandy Named Moravian Men's Soccer Captains for 2015 Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College Head Men's Soccer Coach Todd Ervin has announced that seniors goalie Brian Boland and defender Matthew Gandy have been selected as the Greyhounds' captains for the 2015 season.

"I am happy to announce that in addition to our returning captain, Brian Boland, we have named senior, Matt Gandy as a co-captain," commented Ervin. "Both Brian and Matt are outstanding student-athletes and bring the effort, drive and mentality we need in order to be successful. With a large freshmen class this year, I will be relying on both Brian and Matt's leadership in order to make us a focused, goal driven team. I am confident that with these two at the helm, we will have a very successful year."

Boland is returning for his third season as the Hounds' starting keeper after making the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in 2014. He has seen action in 40 career matches with 35 starts, and he has a 1.64 goals-against average with eight shutouts in 3,506 minutes in goal. Boland made 102 stops last fall and has 212 saves in his career. He is just seven saves away from reaching the top 10 in school history, and his eight career shutouts are tied for eighth in the Moravian record books.

Gandy will be back for his third year as a starter on defense for the Greyhounds. He has played in 42 career matches with 30 starts, and he missed over half of the 2013 season with an injury. Gandy has scored one goal and added three assists during his career, and he was also selected to the 2014 Landmark Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Greyhounds begin their 2015 preseason camp with their first practice on Wednesday, August 19, and the squad will open the regular season on Tuesday, September 1 when the Hounds host Cairn University at 4:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
