Jones & Phillips Each Score Twice as Hounds Roll Past Delaware Valley, 5-1

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. --- Sophomore midfielder Connor Phillips netted a pair of goals and assisted on another and freshman midfielder Ron Jones scored the first two goals of his career as the Moravian College men's soccer team posted a 5-1 non-conference victory at Delaware Valley University Wednesday afternoon.

The Aggies took a quick 1-0 lead just three minutes into action. The Greyhounds tried to counter quickly with five shots in the next 12 minutes. Moravian eventually tied the contest in the 22nd minute when senior midfielder Brett Harder headed in his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Freshman midfielder David Durski started the play with a cross before Phillips flipped the ball over to Harder for the game-tying goal.

Phillips needed just 1:39 to put Moravian in the lead for good when he found the back off the net off of a feed from junior forward Saul Marcial. Jones pushed the lead to 3-1 just 36 seconds later with his first collegiate goal off of a pass from freshman forward Koshane Marshall in the 24th minute.

In the second half, Jones picked up his second goal of the afternoon in the 57th off of another pass from Marshall, his team-leading fourth assist of the season to join Phillips and junior midfielder Ian Larimer, who also have four assists.

Phillips finished off the scoring in the 65th minute as he netted his fourth goal of the fall off of a feed from junior midfielder Robert McKinley. Moravian finished the match with a 20-3 edge in shots and an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior goalie Brian Boland made one save for the Hounds while playing the first 63 minutes of the contest while sophomore keeper Bryan Yaskowski was in goal for the final 27 minutes for Moravian.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Saturday, September 26 in a Landmark Conference match at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. starting at 3:30 p.m.
