Men's Soccer Looks to Compete for Landmark Playoff Berth in 2015

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team looks to compete for a Landmark Conference playoff spot this fall, after battling at the end of last season and narrowly missing out on playoff spot.

This year the Hounds have added 21 new faces to the squad and are returning 19 upperclassmen. "We are looking forward to having a large squad this year. It provides a great competitive environment and gives each player added incentive to bring their best every day," commented Head Coach Todd Ervin.

Defensively, the Hounds return plenty of experience. Senior co-captain, Matthew Gandy, along with sophomore Corey Klaskin, senior Austin Niekrasz, senior Austin van-Spanje and sophomore Brandon Percey, all performed admirably last year and are expected to make a big impact on the team this season.

Offensively, Moravian will be looking to find the net more often than they did last year. "I'm expecting quite a lot from our attack this year," noted Ervin. "Players such as junior Saul Marcial and senior Brett Harder will hopefully be able to score early and often." The coaches won't have to rely on just the forwards; however, sophomore Ryan Bartel, a midfielder, is coming off a four goal freshman season and is expected to play a big role throughout the course of the season. Other midfielders who will have a significant impact will be junior Robert McKinley, sophomore Brett Lubben, and transfer Connor Phillips.

Senior co-captain goalkeeper Brian Boland looks to keep up the stellar play from last season. After posting 102 save in close to 1,600 minutes, and being a consistent force within the net, Boland was elected to the Landmark Conference All-Conference Second Team. Also returning to the squad this season is sophomore goalkeeper Bryan Yaskowski who saw limited playing time as a freshman.

Moravian will kick off its 2015 campaign at home this season, playing Cairn University on Tuesday, September 1 on the HUB Quad at 4:00 p.m.
