Moravian Men's Soccer Opens Conference Play With a Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer opened Landmark Conference play with a 2-0 win over Goucher College Saturday on the HUB Quad.

The Hounds played well, scoring a goal in both halves of the game. The Greyhounds started off a little sluggish but found their groove about halfway through the first 45 minutes of action. The team only tallied two shots on net before they found the back of the cage. The first goal came off a header from senior defender Matthew Gandy in the 32nd minute on a corner kick by junior midfielder Brett Lubben. Moravian only totaled five shots in the first half.

The Greyhounds came out strong in the second half. Just over five minutes into action, Lubben blasted a shot on net only to be turned away by the goalie. After that, the Hounds picked up the attack and added 13 more shots before finding the back of the net to give them a 2-0 lead. The goal came from senior forward Shane Harder. Harder received a pass from sophomore midfielder Connor Phillips, and after making the goalie come out to play the ball, Harder was able to send it home into the open net.

Moravian played a very strong defensive game only allowing five shots the entire game. Senior goalie Brian Boland made two saves in the game, bringing his season total to 24 with his second shutout of the season and his 10 career shutout.

The Greyhounds will take the field again on Wednesday, September 23 at Delaware Valley University at 4:00 p.m.
