Men's Soccer Drops Hard Fought Game Versus Centenary College

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team dropped a tough non-conference matchup versus Centenary (N.J.) College by a final score of 1-0 on the HUB Quad Tuesday afternoon.

The Hounds worked hard in the first half on both the offense and defensive sides of the ball. Sophomore Hunter Ackerson put a shot on net just under two minutes into the game. In the 11th minute Brett Lubben put another shot on net. Leading up a penalty kick by sophomore midfielder Connor Phillips in the 36th minute, the team had numerous chances including two corner kicks from Chris Caso. However the Greyhounds were not able to find the back of the net in the half. In the first half Moravian, took more shots than Centenary 9-3, as well as more corner kicks, 9-0.

"I thought in the first half we moved the ball very well and created some good chances," commented head coach Todd Ervin after the game. "I was a little disappointed we weren't able to convert on a few of them, including the penalty kick. I thought we at least deserved a point out of it today."

Play went back and forth in the second half before the Cyclones found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 56th minute. The Hounds attacked relentlessly as time wound down trying to find the back of the net but were unable to do so. The team had a couple of good chances off of free kicks from just outside the 20 yard box, including one by sophomore defender Corey Klaskin that was blocked out in front of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Brian Boland made six saves for the team.

The Hounds will open up Landmark Conference play on Saturday, September 19 versus Goucher College at 1:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
