2nd Half Rally Leads Hounds Past Berkeley (N.J.), 2-1 in Gilmore Alumni Classic

GLASSBORO, N.J. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals including a penalty kick from sophomore midfielder Connor Phillips in the 75th minute to lead the Greyhounds to a 2-1 win over Berkeley (N.J.) College on the second day of the Gilmore Alumni Classic hosted by Rowan University.

Berkeley scored on its first shot of the match in the fifth minute but Moravian senior goalie Brian Boland made sure that was only shot that got past him. Boland stopped the only other shot on goal he faced in the match in the 69th minute.

Just two minutes after the goal, senior midfielder Brett Harder had a shot blocked. Senior forward Shane Harder nearly tied the match in the 10th minute with a shot off the crossbar and Brett Harder drilled a post a minute later. Freshman midfielder David Durski had a shot blocked in the 14th minute and junior midfielder Robert McKinley's follow up shot was saved. The Greyhounds finished the first half with an 8-1 edge in shots.

The Hounds scored on their first shot of the second half when Brett Harder headed in his team-leading fourth goal of the season into the right side of the net off of a pass from the left side of the field from Shane Harder in the 58th minute. Phillips lined up for his second penalty kick of the season in the 75th minute and buried it to give Moravian a 2-1 lead. The Greyhounds had two more shots in the final five minutes from freshman forward Koshane Marshall to finish with a 13-2 shot advantage in the match. The Hounds also had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, September 15 when the Greyhounds welcome Centenary (N.J.) College to the HUB Quad for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match as the Hounds return from a four-match road trip.
