Hounds Late Flurry Falls Short at Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2016 season Wednesday afternoon, falling to Centenary College, 2-1, in non-conference action on the road.

The Greyhounds, now 3-1 on the year, fell behind in the 32nd minute when the Cyclones curled a corner kick into the net, and Centenary scored again in the 74th minute.

Moravian, which had a 25-18 advantage in shots, nearly cut the lead in half two minutes later when sophomore midfielder Ron Jones hit the cross bar, one of three shots by the Blue and Grey that rang off the iron. The Greyhounds would get on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute when senior forward Saul Marcial netted his second goal of the season, firing a feed from junior midfielder Connor Phillips into the back of the net. Moravian finished with a flurry in the final minute with Marcial having a shot blocked before taking a corner kick. The Hounds had two headers in the final 14 seconds after the corner kick but both were saved.

Greyhound junior goalie Bryan Yaskowski had seven saves in the match, and he also had the final shot on goal as the Hounds pressed to tie the match.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 17 in a non-conference match versus Berkeley (N.J.) College beginning at 4:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
